Alterna is proud to announce that it has partnered with EcoMedia and the City of Miami to create an “EcoZone” at Miami City Hall, where a state of the art solar panel system and an interior energy-saving lighting retrofit were part of a historic makeover. On April 2nd, City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz and EcoMedia CEO Paul Polizzotto unveiled the historic project, which makes Miami City Hall one of the greenest, large urban city halls in the country and the first of its kind to have solar panels. The solar system, which will produce approximately 10,274 kilowatt hours of renewable energy annually, will lower greenhouse gas emissions and save money by reducing consumption of electricity generated by the local utility.
On the lighting side, older, less efficient T-12 fixtures were retrofitted with more efficient T-8 fluorescent lamps and new ballasts. Additionally, state of the art T-5 fluorescent fixtures were installed in the Office of the Mayor, thereby making these the first T-5 fixtures in the City of Miami. Alterna supplied the City Hall project team with all of the high efficiency lighting products and fixtures used in the retrofit. The retrofit is expected to lower electricity consumption by 60 percent, thereby lowering greenhouse gas emissions and saving money for the City of Miami.
