Alterna Corp. was founded by three brothers, Nick, Mark and Matt Gunia, who share a passion for conservation and environmental sustainability, especially in the context of the built environment, which accounts for nearly 40 percent of our energy consumption, carbon dioxide emissions and raw materials use, not to mention roughly 14 percent of potable water consumption.
For over 30 years, the Gunia family has owned and operated K.G. International, a leading international distributor of packaging and raw materials based in Miami, Florida, the Gateway to the Americas. In 2007, the Gunia brothers leveraged this distribution platform in an effort to support the green building movement throughout the Southeast United States, Latin America and the Caribbean.
Before launching Alterna, the brothers observed that green building products were not readily available in these territories, which made using these products logistically impractical and cost-prohibitive. They also observed that the design and construction communities were in need of education and technical guidance, particularly relating to how green building products helped to earn credits under the U.S. Green Building Council's LEEDTM rating system.
In response to these challenges and to support the green building movement throughout the Americas, Alterna's mission is to:
• Make cutting-edge green building products readily available and affordable throughout the Americas; and
• Provide high quality educational programming and reliable technical guidance for the building community.
Over five years later, Alterna has successfully pioneered an exclusive portfolio of innovative product lines that conserve energy, water and resources and established itself as the go-to design and educational resource for countless green building professionals, including architects and designers, developers, builders and contractors. With a new showroom and distribution facility located just minutes from Miami International Airport, Alterna is proud to be the green design hub of the Americas.
Alterna is always looking for qualified professionals who share our passion for green building and environmental sustainability. If you are interested in applying for a position, please fax your resume and cover letter to (305) 639-1972 (Attn: Human Resources).
