Alterna Exhibits Caroma at the South Florida Plumbing and Mechanical Trade Expo
On Thursday, November 19, 2009, Alterna Corp. exhibited at the South Florida Plumbing and Mechanical Trade Expo, which was held at the DoubleTree Miami Mart &amb; Convention Center. The event brought together tradesmen and vendors from across South Florida for the purpose of product and service awareness, demonstration, and sales.
Alterna showcased it’s US EPA WaterSense approved fixtures, including Caroma dual flush toilets and high efficiency urinals and the stunning new Fluid line of high efficiency faucets, shower systems and bathroom accessories. Learn more.

Richlite Appoints Alterna as Southeast US and Caribbean Distributor for its Paper Composite Products
We are pleased to announce that Richlite has selected Alterna Corp. to serve as Southeast US and Caribbean Distributor for its line of paper composite products. Richlite panels and slabs are an ideal green solution for countertops and work surfaces, indoor and outdoor paneling, millwork and furniture, and numerous other architectural applications. Richlite is is made of paper from either Forest Stewardship Council certified forests throughout North America, or 50% and 100% post-consumer recycled corrugated cardboard and paper respectively. Richlite is distinctive, incredibly durable and highly resistant to heat (up to 350°F), scratches and stains. Furthermore, Richlite emits no harmful indoor air pollutants like formaldehyde and has earned the rigorous GREENGUARD certification for Children and Schools. LEED credits for Richlite products are available in two categories, namely Materials and Resources (MR 4.1, 4.2 and 7) and Indoor Environmental Quality (EQ 4.4).

Alterna Launches Fluid at Hospitality Design
at (HD) Boutique 2009
For the third consecutive year, Alterna Corp. exhibited at the Hospitality Design (HD) Boutique Exposition and Conference, which was held at the Miami Beach Convention Center on September 14-15th, 2009.
For this year’s exhibit, Alterna launched the stunning new Fluid line of high efficiency faucets, showers systems and bathroom accessories. Alterna also showcased Caroma dual flush toilets, as well as Plyboo bamboo and Durapalm coconut palm plywood, flooring and wall paneling. The 2009 HD Boutique show attracted over 3,500 industry professionals from the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean. Learn more.

Alterna Sponsors USGBC South Florida Chapter Tour of LEED Certified American Airlines Arena
We are proud to announce that Alterna sponsored the June monthly member meeting of the Miami-Dade and Keys Branch of the South Florida Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The meeting featured a special walking tour of the American Airlines Arena, home of the Miami Heat and the first sports arena of its kind to be LEED for Existing Buildings certified. In April 2009, USGBC President, CEO and Founding Chairman, Rick Fedrizzi, was at the Arena, along with City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz and other local leaders, to congratulate and present a LEED plaque to Arena staff. During the tour, the approximately 150 attendees learned about the Arena’s green features and LEED certification process from the facilities staff at the Arena. Attendees even had the opportunity to walk out onto the basketball court. Alterna team members had a table at the event, where they showcased high efficiency plumbing fixtures from Caroma and LED lighting solutions from Revlite.

Alterna Achieves FSC Chain of Custody Certification
Alterna Corp. is proud to announce it has earned a Forest Stewardship Council chain-of-custody certification. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world’s forests. Alterna’s chain of custody certification was achieved after a rigorous third party audit of its distribution center.
Currently, Alterna is an exclusive distributor of Smith and Fong’s Plyboo, the only FSC certified bamboo flooring and plywood in the world. Alterna’s Miami warehouse will now be able to distribute FSC Plyboo products and other FSC certified products to its customers, and ensure a clear chain of custody. FSC certified wood is the only allowable certification for both commercial and residential LEED Projects, the green building certification program of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

Alterna Sponsors and Exhibits at the South Florida Green Lodging Workshop
Over 250 professionals attended the first annual South Florida Green Lodging Workshop on Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The City of Miami Beach and its Sustainability Committee in participation with Miami-Dade County presented the workshop, which included a vendor tradeshow and which was the first of its kind in South Florida. Alterna was proud to be one of over 30 exhibitors at the tradeshow, as well as a “Three Star” sponsor for the workshop alongside the South Florida Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Caroma and Ecotel Consulting.
The Mayor for the City of Miami Beach, Matti Herrera-Bower, and Commissioner and Sustainability Committee Chair, Saul Gross, welcomed workshop attendees and expressed their support for green lodging practices in local hotels. Event speakers included Dave Stipanuk, Professor Emeritus of the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration, Maribel Balbin, the Conservation Director for Miami-Dade Water and Sewer and Dr. Daniel Meeroff of FAU. Alterna President, Nick Gunia, was the MC of the workshop and he also delivered a talk on indoor water conservation opportunities for hotels.
